MORECAMBE shoppers gathered to watch firefighters rescue a man from the flames at his home on Euston Road on Tuesday.
The man, in his 30s, was finally carried down in a cage because he was terrified. Firefighters had to be calm him down by firefighters before they could save him at about 12.30pm. He couldn't escape from the three-storey building because fire had destroyed one of the floors. Police helped out by closing off part of West End Road. Paramedics took the man to hospital. He was not seriously hurt.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
