WOMEN don't need to be martial arts experts in order to protect themselves.
With annual figures for reported attacks on women reaching 180,000 in Britain, course organisers felt it time to try to combat the danger.
On Sunday a free, self defence course for women begins at Howe Bridge sports centre.
Basic tuition, designed to benefit both those with absolutely no self-defence training experience and those who have, is available between 12.30 and 4.30.
The course covers mental and physical aspects of protection dealing with frontal and rear attacks, hair grabs and ground attacks as well as Home Office guidelines on the law and use of force.
The course is being sponsored by Paul Whittle Cars and for further details call Jo-Anne or Paul Swift on 01942 733875.
