OPEN all hours shopping traits have killed-off a chemists' tradition.
Consultations between Wigan and Bolton Health Authority and the Local Pharmaceutical Committee have resulted in them dropping the Sunday chemist rota in Atherton and Tyldesley.
After May 31 the special Sunday opening rota will cease - as it already has done in Leigh.
Neil Leatherbarrow, contractor services manager with Wigan and Bolton Health Authority, said: "The decision has been taken based on information supplied by pharmacies currently providing the rota service and bearing in mind the increasing number of pharmacies opening on Bank Holidays and Sundays.
"A new scheme will come in to operation ensuring pharmacy cover across the borough on special bank holidays such as Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Easter Sunday."
