CAMPAIGNERS are to oppose the planned Xanadu station.
Leigh Green Party and other local groups met residents recently to formulate a battle plan over the proposed Kenyon Junction Station.
It was decided in principle to the proposal "No Xanadu-No Station'.
The meeting brought together a formidable group to ensure that present station proposals are defeated.
The general view was that a station could have some limited benefits, but the proposals on offer were totally unacceptable on a number of key issues: the size and location of the proposals, which would destroy a large section of green belt to accommodate the 500 plus car parking spaces, as well as opening up more land to prospects of later development.
Concern was also expressed over the large number of extra vehicles the station would attract into the area.
Greens' spokesman, Chris Maile, said: "This station is no more than a parkway for Xanadu. It has very limited benefits to the local community, which would simple see even more traffic brought into an area that is already congested."
A public meeting will be organised in the near future.
