A LEIGH mum, who always put others before herself, is to have a trophy named in her honour.
Ellen Myers, of Westminster Drive, Higher Folds, died suddenly on May 11.
She was 59, and had recently retired from her post as a cleaner at Leigh police station.
Now Leigh Miners Rangers, where she was a willing helper for many years, will present an annual memorial cup in her name.
Hundreds of friends joined her family on Friday to pay their respects at St Gabriel's RC Church, Higher Folds.
The club's junior section chairman, Trevor Barton, said: "Ellen had a tough life, but yet had put others before herself, in particular her family and her three sons Geoffrey, Stephen and Neil, who stood tall and proud at the funeral, and were living proof of the lifetime's work that mattered to her most.
"Ellen was in and around Leigh Rangers for as long as I can remember. She would watch her lads play, but was more than willing to roll up her sleeves if required.
"She was revered in her own community for her work with the Cubs and Scouts, and it was nice to see that members from all the different organisations attended the service in great numbers."
At this week's club presentation evening it was announced that Ellen and her lifetime contribution will be remembered for many years to come with the awarding of the trophy in her honour.
