LANCASTER will be the scene of some wild African rhythms on June 12.
Kids Ceilidhs in Lancaster, which was formed to bring folk dance to children in Lancaster, has won a grant to bring Raymond Otto to Lancaster.
Raymond comes from the black township of Soweto and his African Dance Workshop will form the main part of an African and English Family Dancing Day to take place at the Gregson Centre. This all-day event is for children from three to 10 with their parents and you don't have to know what you are doing to have a good time.
The day starts with an English Family Ceilidh and after lunch there's a chance to learn some Riverdancing with Helen Duncan of the Cuan School of Irish Dance.
At the end of the day there'll be a family dance where the three types of dance will fuse. The night before the family Dancing Day, Raymond will be running an African Singing and Dancing Workshop at the Gregson followed by a dance night and concert where Raymond will be joined by Striding Edge Trio.
