WHEN the going gets tough - the tough get going and at Halton Training Camp at the weekend more than £3,500 was raised by foolhardy volunteers for the local blind charity.
A total of 30 teams took part in an assault course challenge and there were around 250 supporters cheering on the brave contestants.
The winners of the all-male team event were "Four Play" from Sunlight in Lancaster with a winning time of three minutes eight seconds.
The "GI Jane's" from Leisure Services took the all-female title in five minutes, 42 seconds and the mixed team winners were the "Brave Merchants" from Merchant Ferries with a time of four minutes, 49 seconds.
Said Development Worker Tony Kimpton: "I am sure that everyone had a lot of fun getting across the various obstacles and members of the army were there to offer a helping hand as well as to carry out the timings. I would like to thank the many local businesses, sporting groups and individuals for entering into the spirit of the afternoon and also the camp for allowing use to use their facilities."
