OFSTED inspectors have described Sutton Community High School as "a good school" and added that "its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses."
The school, which caters, for more than 1,300 pupils, was found to have made good progress since its last appraisal, with the inspection team confirming that it "focuses effectively on raising the attainment of pupils and has invested in developing teachers' skills and their expectations of pupils."
teaching was found to be "a particular strength" with a significant amount being very good and excellent, and the inspectors also praising good leadership and effective management at all levels.
Test results were well above those in similar schools across the country in English, mathematics and science at the end of Key Stage 3 in 1998.
Pupils with special educational needs were confirmed as making good progress in many subjects and the inspection report stated that "some very good or excellent teaching was seen in English, mathematics, business, information technology and a number of other subject areas."
Parents confirmed that they like the way the school is approachable, handles complaints and encourages parents to get involved. They also liked the standards of education given by the school.
The inspectors concluded that "senior staff in the school have led significant improvements in teaching which are resulting in good progress and sustained standards . . . the school is well placed to continue to improve.
