CLITHEROE-BASED rally driver Martin Meadows took another great step towards making BTRDA Rally Series history by extending his Gold Star Championship lead on last weekend's Red Dragon Rally - no driver in the 25 year history of the championship has won Gold Star in a 1600cc car.
Driving his usual Ralliart Co-ordSport Proton Compact, Martin and Gloucestershire co-driver Ian Oakey raced through the Vale of Neath stages to claim second place. Martin and Ian Oakey were only beaten by British Championship driver Nick Elsmore, who was using his factory-specification Nissan Sunny. Elsmore's two-litre car boasts more than 160bhp, while Martin's 1600cc Compact turns just 155bhp.
