A WREATH was laid at the old Unitarian Sunday School, in Todmorden, to honour the 150th anniversary of the death of mill owner and MP John Fielden.
To mark the ceremony, the bell at the nearby Unitarian Church chimed 65 times - one for every year of "honest" John's life, followed by rings through the changes of the church all afternoon.
The Fielden Society also organised a display of the work of children from five local schools.
The Fielden family developed the Waterside Mill complex in the town and had business interests world-wide. As MP for Oldham. Mr Fielden was responsible for getting the Ten Hours Act passed, limiting the hours women and children could work.
Fielden family members will hold a reunion in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall next Saturday.
