THREE teenagers have appeared in court charged with assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

Two girls, aged 16 and 17, were accused of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

And a 17-year-old boy was charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

Neither the accused or the alleged victim can be named for legal reasons.

The alleged assault happened near Oswaldtwistle War Memorial at around midnight on Friday.

The 13-year-old girl was treated at Blackburn Royal Infirmary for injuries, including a broken wrist, a suspected fractured skull and extensive bruising to her face and body but has now been allowed home.

The 16-year-old girl was also charged with making threats to kill and another offence of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in connection with an unrelated incident at a house on Belfield Road, Accrington, at about 12.30am on Sunday.

She was remanded into the care of the local authority.

The other two accused teenagers were both bailed to live at their home addresses subject to conditions.

All three were due to appear again today at Hyndburn Youth Court.
