THREE teenagers appeared before a youth court yesterday accused of a late night assault on a 13-year-old girl.

A 16-year-old unemployed girl from Oswaldtwistle and a 17-year-old girl from Church appeared, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. A 17-year-old boy from Oswaldtwistle appeared on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

The assault is said to have happened near Oswaldtwistle War Memorial at around midnight on Friday.

The 13-year-old victim has been released from Blackburn Royal Infirmary after treatment for injuries, including a broken wrist, a suspected fractured skull, possible injuries to her neck and ear, and extensive bruising to her face and body. Neither the accused nor the alleged victim can be named for legal reasons. The Oswaldtwistle girl also appeared charged with making threats to kill and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following a separate incident at a house in Belfield Road, Accrington, at about 12.30am on Sunday.

She was remanded into the care of the local authority, on condition she does not enter licensed premises, does not associate with her co-accused, does not contact the alleged victim or prosecution witnesses and observes a curfew.

The other two accused were both bailed to live at their home addresses on similar conditions.

All three were ordered to appear before Hyndburn Youth Court on June 22.
