MORE than one in seven local firms are now making sales through the internet, according to a survey out today.
And the figure puts North West firms as the leader in electronic commerce in the country.
More than half of those questioned said they now frequently used a website and e-mail - a significant increase compared to two years ago. The figures also show that 22 per cent of businesses use video conferencing facilities and 55 per cent of firms have access to the internet.
"It is excellent that companies in the North West are recognising the benefits of technology and are adopting the use of it at such a rate," said minister for small firms Michael Wills.
The DTI is encouraging business to make more use of technology through a network of Information Society Initiative centres including one based at Business LInk East Lancashire.
