HAVING won the first race in the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix on the Fells last week, Clayton's Mark Brown also won the second, the Colne Lions 10K on the road.
Andrew Hartley and Anthony Waterworth finished close behind, and another Clayton man Paul Brannon was first eveteran. Evan Cook of Blackburn Harriers was the leading over 45 and 15-year-old David Fearnley (Blackburn Harriers) beat his father Adrian (Accrington RR) for the first time. David recorded 37.06 with Adrian 10 seconds adrift.
Pauline Powell set a course record of 37.21 to win the ladies race by a five minute margin, and there were also course records for L45 Jennifer Adams of Red Rose 43.34, L60 Kitty Garnett (Clayton) 55.27, and M60 Ted Orrell (Clayton) 41.08.
Evan Cook of Blackburn Harriers was 10th in 1:15.57 at the East Cheshire Half Marathon, with Mick Nester (Blackburn Road Runners) 13th in 1:17.49. For once neither men were prizewinners in the M45 category as many top veterans were there for the Northern Veterans Championship. Race winner Mike Girvan (Warrington) clocked a remarkable 1:08.48 for an over 45.
Three Blackburn Road Runners made their regular trip to Scotland for the Kirkudbright Half Marathon, Mick Chimejczuk returning 1:41.32, Adrian Batson 1:46.35 and Dougie Joss 2:07.39. Nearer to home, Tony Martin finished 45th in the Cuerden Valley four miler.
The third and fourth races in the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix are held on consecutive days this weekend.
The 3m Kelbrook Fell Race starts at 2pm on Saturday at St Mary's Church, with the fun run at 1.15pm. On Sunday it is the turn of the Burnley Boys Club 10k at the Barden Track, Burnley at 3pm.
The Rossendale Harriers Half Marathon on Sunday starts at 11am from Marl Pits, Rawtenstall. At exactly the same time the Sands 10k will start from Bolton le Sands Community Centre, North of Lancaster and the John Tyler 4.3 mile road race will start from the Springhill Hospice, Broad Lane, Rochdale off the A671.
Half an hour later, at 11.30am on Sunday the 7.5m Edenfield Fell Race starts at Edenfield Cricket Club near Bury. Parking is restricted at the Paddy's Pole FR on Tuesday. The 4.5m race starts at Fell Foot near Chipping at 7.15pm.
Two series continue on Wednesday, registration for the Horwich Jubilee at Rivington Bowling Club, the race starts at 7.30pm, and the Chetham Close 3 is from the Chetham Arms, Chapeltown, Turton, The 10k trail race is at 7.30pm, under 16s at 6.50pm, under 12s at 6.30pm and fun run at 7.40pm.
The Top O'Leach Hill Race and Walk, in memory of local runner Harry Aspinall, takes place on Sunday, June 13, starting at 11.15am, held as part of the Stacksteads Summer Fair.
