FIRE crews tackled a house fire and a factory blaze at the same time in Todmorden.

Todmorden firefighters were already dealing with an attic bedroom fire that started at 9.30pm in Thorn Place when the factory blaze broke out 30 minutes later and just 200 yards away at Poly Hi Solidur Ltd in Halifax Road.

A couple and their baby got out of the house unhurt, but severe damage was caused to the bedroom.

Sub Officer John Collinge said: "Flames and smoke were coming out of the roof windows when we arrived.''

The cause of the incident is still being investigated.

Fire crews from Burnley, Bacup, Huddersfield and Mytholmroyd were involved in tackling the mill fire which caused extensive flooding to the factory where 39 people are employed. The cause is also being investigated.

Administration and marketing manager Alison Thomas said: "Fortunately they managed to confine fire damage to the machine and immediate area.

"There is still a lot of water about but we have other machines working and it is very much business as usual today."
