FED-UP members of a popular bowling club claim young vandals have created a 'no go' area around their base by carrying out weekly wrecking sprees.
Dozens of cars have been damaged outside Darwen Subscription Bowling Club in Anyon Street over the last six months.
Officials today called for urgent action to stop the attacks which have forced many regulars to stay away.
Club president Coun Paul Browne said: "The situation has become ridiculous.
"A lot of people are frightened to come because they say it has become a 'no go' area.
"The other week an artiste was in the club dropping off her equipment when a group of teenagers started damaging her van. She wasn't prepared to put up with it so she just packed up and left.
"As well as the bowling, we put on a lot of entertainment, including bingo, quiz nights and artistes at the weekend but numbers are dropping every week."
The vandals, aged between 13 and 16, have been responsible for breaking off wing mirrors, scratching paintwork and smashing windows. When challenged they give verbal abuse and run away.
Mr Browne, who represents the Sudell ward on Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, added: "We need the police to take urgent action. The committee is just about to arrange for a major refurbishment of the club and we want visitors to feel safe when they come.
"There is no point investing in the club if people are too frightened to come or are left with a hefty car repair bill."
Inspector Stuart Coates of Darwen police said: "Juvenile nuisance complaints are very high in this area, like many other parts of the town.
"We do have a problems keeping control of it while at at the same time dealing with serious crime.
"A lot of agencies are working in the Sudell area and things have improved, although we recognise there is still a long way to go.
"If a pattern can be established with these attacks further action can be taken."
