GOLBORNE High School pupils have won a £3,000 grant - to entertain pensioners.
The school has been successful in its Barclays Bank "New Futures Award" bid to launch a project which will bring senior citizens in for lunch and entertainment once a week
It will be run in partnership with the Metropolitan Council Catering Service and the local community.
Miss Annie Boate, head of PSE, has been amazed by the response.
She said: "It is important to develop links with the community. This project will enable us to work with local people and give something back.
"The students will also benefit as they will be involved in planning, publicity and active community service."
The scheme will be managed by pupils, but led by Miss Boate.
She added: "Everyone concerned is excited and looking forward to it. It is anticipated that the police, local businesses etc will be involved in the provision of activities."
Any businesses or individual who feels they could help with time or money can contact the school on 01942 726842.
