WITH all the superlatives which quite rightly have been used to describe the fantastic achievements of the Manchester United team and manager, can I add my praise of the fans.
I think they and the city of Manchester can be very proud that, with going on for one million people massing in the city centre to welcome their heroes and waiting patiently for hours, there were only six arrests for minor incidents.
Perhaps if the TV, radio and newspapers, which give so much prominence to any football violence, however much in the minority, could give the same prominence to this brilliant example, the game itself would not come to such disrepute, and other towns and cities would be encouraged to try to emulate them.
I would also like to give well-deserved praise to the police for the fantastic way in which they controlled the whole occasion which, in itself, enabled the whole night to be a brilliant success.
J. HOMEWOOD,
