A BIG thank-you was the welcome to 71 volunteers who give up their time for St Catherine's Hospice.
The charity workers had each completed 10 years service - 900 years between them - dedicating their time to helping at the charity's shops, support groups and the Lostock Hall hospice itself.
Ellen Savage (pictured with the volunteers) who worked as a volunteer herself before being appointed as co-ordinator last year, praised their efforts. She said: "Without these people, life for the patients at St Catherine's would not be the same. Through their support the nurses can spend quality time with patients."
Two women Elsie Newsham (left) and Iris Tyler, pictured with Ellen (centre), work in various departments of the hospice and were among those honoured receiving certificates today (Thursday).
The awards were made by the three new mayors of Preston, South Ribble and Chorley, who will automatically become vice-presidents of the hospice during their term of office.
"We get tremendous support from the mayors, not just from their mayoral charities, but from their attendance at different events and helping his generally," said Ellen.
