OVER 50 girls from four local high schools took part in the second Girls Tag Tournament held at Nelson and Colne College, Colne.
The eventual winners were Mansfield High School who won all three of their matches.
The Brierfield school were able to draw on the experience of several players who also play for the successful Pendle Panthers Girls Rugby League Club. Walton High were runners-up just losing the one match with Fisher More High taking third spot and a hard-working Park High in fourth position.
The tournament was organised by Pendle Panthers Girls Club. Player of the tournament went to Walton High Schools' Sarah Dixon. The tournament was also a selection event to recruit 15 players to represent Pendle Schools at the Lancashire Youth Games on June 26.
Those selected are - Walton HS: Sarah Ashworth, Sarah Dixon, Robynne Scott; Park HS: Angela Rebanks, Emma Southward, Jenny Swann; Fisher More HS: Lauren Berry, Melissa Watson, Casha Smith; Mansfield HS: Jennie Hoggatt, Yvonne Mason, Joanne Spink, Rebecca Heaton, Danielle Atherton, Charlotte Sinclair.
The girls will be back on June 24 to compete in the nine-a-side full contact tournament.
Training has just started for under 11s and under 12s (junior school years five and six) on Monday evenings at Nelson and Colne College, Reedyford, Nelson.
