REGARDING Mr G Pilkington's remarks in 'Light up cyclists!' (Letters, May 26), where I live, it's not the cyclists who need helmets, it's the pedestrians - to protect them from the cyclists.
When they overtake me (on the pavement, of course), they rush past me at least one at each side and frighten me to death.
Once, when I was able to catch up with two who had entered a shop and laid their bikes quite neatly across the pavement, I asked if they should have a bell to warn people.
They laughed and said: "We don't have brakes, never mind bells!"
So, now, I am more confident because at least I will probably get killed rather than injured or scared to death.
These are not children I am talking about, they are teenagers.
