HAYDOCK CC endured a frustrating draw at home to St Phillips/Southport College.
Haydock were put into bat and Billy Hurst (25) and Tony Derbyshire (20) provided a good start. Dave Cross came in and led by example setting the ground alight with a brilliant 78. Darren Mathews who has promised so much this season came good and was left unbeaten on 31. Barry Cross also shared in the run spree he also attacked the bowling with some relish, his unbeaten 27 was quality and helped Haydock to 203-6.
The St Phillips reply was to say the least a cautious one as the opening batsmen frustrated the Haydock bowling. Adrian Barr soon found the right spot and gave Haydock hope taking 4-28. Dave Burrows 3-12 came with a late flurry but C Harsfall 27 H Pearce 23 and K Bolton managed to hang on as St Phillips finished with 89-8 at stumps. Match ball sponsor John Nuttall Bulls Head garage.
The second however came away from St Phillips with a y good win.
Batting first Haydockreached 139 all out.
Not a big score but the Haydock howlers were right on the mark. Gary Ormrod took a sparkling 5-11. Steve Plant claimed 2-15. Young Paul Roberts 3/16 mopped up and Haydock shot St Phillips out for 31.
