POLICE have praised revellers in Accrington for creating a friendly atmosphere for visitors enjoying a night out in the town.
An operation over the Bank Holiday weekend has been hailed a success after just one person was arrested on a busy Sunday night.
Mounted police and dog handlers patrolled the town centre for the latest stage of Operation Edify.
The campaign targets drinkers on the traditionally hectic night before a Bank Holiday when pubs and clubs are at their busiest.
Sergeant Mark Rothwell, operations manager at Accrington police, said the campaign was proving a success and more people were visiting the town from other areas of East Lancashire as a result.
"Some actually said they were coming to Accrington because they knew we'd be out in force.
"A lot of people were here from places as far apart as Darwen and Clitheroe and it shows they are feeling
safer."
