EMPLOYERS in East Lancashire have been urged to make sure they are aware of a new rule.
From June 1 the period of continuous employment required to bring a claim for unfair dismissal has been reduced from two years to one.
"This change is of enormous significance and will immediately entitle an additional three million employees to bring claims," said Rayner Jones of Blackburn-based solicitors Forbes & Partners.
The maximum compensation payable if a claim of unfair dismissal is successfully brought is being increased from £12,000 to £50,000 this year.
