ALTHOUGH Lynx had given everyone heart last week that a possible recovery was on the way against Batley Bulldogs, I think they were kidding us as well as themselves, writes Steve Tranter.
This performance was back to the lackadaisical, slipshod defence at we had been getting used to.
Lynx looked reckless in defence and but for some opportunism from Neil Alexander, they were clueless up front.
Discipline looked to have tightened up in recent weeks but the old niggles had come back and unfortunately in their own half which is asking for trouble.
It wouldn't have been so bad to watch if Hull KR had put in a performance of any worth, but they were far from their best.
It was enough to send them to the top of the division though, which was in stark contrast to Lynx who cemented themselves into third bottom, now four points adrift of Swinton.
Whatever coach Steve Hampson does now surely cannot be any worse than what has been going on so far.
This may be a time to gamble with a different routine or try some newer, hungrier players from elsewhere maybe.
Lynx conceded a penalty after five minutes for a high tackle from second row Dave Smith.
From the resulting penalty influential loose forward Andy Smith scored a try after he raced on to a through-ball and planted the ball down right of the sticks.
Hull were denied a try minutes later when scrum-half Jason Donohue gave a sweet pass to centre Whetu (Fettoo) Taewa.
Taewa would have blazed over to score a memorable try down the wing but was bundled into touch inches from the line with a flying tackle from winger Dave Jones.
Lynx hit back 15 minutes later when stand off Neil Alexander picked up the ball in midfield and ran at the Hull defence.
He skipped past three defenders to cross the whitewash for a great solo try.
Danny Jones converted to level the scores at six points.
Lynx got their first bit of bad luck when winger Dave Jones limped off with what looked like a knee injury minutes later.
This proved to be the turning point for Hull and Lynx made a mess of their tackling with the Hull loose forward and hooker Tich Chamberlain kicked the ball to the try line where he dropped on to it for a score.
Another penalty given away by Dave Smith gave Rovers their next opportunity.
The outstanding second row Paul Fletcher made a break down the right wing and passed to centre Chris Kitchen who in turn offloaded to winger John Wray for a great try.
The first half finished with the score at 18 points to 6.
Hull came straight back in the second half, indeed before coach Steve Hampson had taken his seat stand-off Stanley Gene made a 40yard break, passing to Whetu Taewa for an excellent try.
Next came a catalogue of missed tackles from Lynx as man of the match Paul Fletcher ran the defence ragged before giving the ball to his hooker to score under the posts. Gene was put over the try line by his scrumhalf for a super score.
It took the Lancashire side 20 minutes before they mounted an attack outside their own half.
Alexander went through two poor tackles to score under the sticks for his sixth try in two games.
Danny Jones converted but Gene managed to fox the defence by diving on his own neat grubber kick to the line.
A howler by Neil Alexander occurred when he completely missed a clearance with a kick, which allowed Chamberlain in for his hat-trick.
Chris Kitchen converted his eighth successful goal to finish the game in style.
