POLICE have revealed they are delighted with the results of a crackdown on known criminals in Blackburn.

The clampdown labelled Operation Tango has been in full swing since the start of June and more than 80 people have been arrested. Police in charge of the operation say crime levels have fallen dramatically in the town since the start of the crackdown.

Large amounts of stolen property and drugs including heroin, cannabis and ecstasy have also been recovered.

According to the latest figures, crime rates in Blackburn town centre for the last month have fallen by more than 30 per cent.

The operation has also seen an even bigger slump in the number of incidents involving youngsters. Police have seen a 35 per cent drop in juvenile nuisance incidents since the start of the month

Police are keen to keep up the momentum and they are appealing for any members of the public with information about criminal activity to contact them.

Inspector Bob Eastwood said: "We intend to continue our efforts on targeting those who commit crime and areas of Blackburn where criminals are most active." Anyone with information can contact the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
