A KIND couple are using bacon butties and hot mugs of coffee to raise cash for charity.
Peter and Mary Caswell raised £451 for the Christie Hospital in Manchester by cooking 72 breakfasts at their home in Harrow Drive, Blackburn.
And another session, at St James' Church, Lower Darwen, raised £490 for the Withnell-based charity International Aid Trust, which is helping victims of the Kosovo conflict.
The couple organised the fund-raiser for Christie's because their daughter-in-law, Julie Caswell, of Lincoln Road, Blackburn, has been treated for breast cancer at the hospital. Julie and her husband John helped out with the cook-in.
Mary, a retired occupational therapy helper, said: "We didn't charge anything - people just gave us donations."
Peter, a retired social worker, said: "One lady gave us £10 for a bacon butty!"
The event was such a success that they decided to repeat it for the International Aid Trust, for which Mary is a volunteer.
The money raised is helping send a lorryload of aid to Kosovo this Saturday.
Some items, particularly children's clothing, underwear and sanitary towels, are still needed.
Anyone who can help should contact Mrs Caswell on 01254 723556.
Food for Mr and Mrs Caswell's breakfasts at home was donated by traders from Blackburn Market. The food for the Kosovo fund-raiser was supplied by Darwen Market.
