A HANDCUFFED teenager who left a police officer unconscious after a struggle has received community service and a probation order.

David Hillary, 19, of Henthorn Road, Clitheroe, was in pain as an officer held on to his arm, which had been previously dislocated, a court was told.

Preston Crown Court heard that Hillary swung his head back hitting the officer in the face, knocking him unconscious. The officer also suffered a wound to his mouth from the same blow.

John McClure, prosecuting, said the defendant had been under the influence of alcohol.

The unlawful wounding took place after Hillary was arrested for criminal damage.

Police were alerted when Hillary smashed a window with his fist.

The offences occurred just five days after he was charged with a public order offence following a drunken night out in Clitheroe.

Hillary was urinating against a wall and shouting obscenities at police.

He pleaded guilty to both charges.

Tony Cross, defending, said: "He has to stop fighting authority."

Hillary was sentenced to 60 hours community service and given a two year probation for unlawful wounding, criminal damage and a public order offence.
