THREE-year-old accident boy Callum Heaton sat up in his hospital bed to eat breakfast today as he recovered from being accidentally run over by a van driven by his father.
Callum suffered head and back injuries in an horrific accident outside their home in Griffin Close, Burnley.
Police believe he may have been playing on the bumper bar of the vehicle as his father Andrew drove off.
He was taken to Burnley General Hospital and then transferred to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital at Pendlebury.
PC David Horsfall, who is investigating the accident said: " Callum is now out of intensive care and in the next level down, the high dependency unit.
"This morning he was sitting up in bed having his breakfast. If he carries on making progress like this he could be on one of the wards in the next day or two.''
Police are still asking for witnesses to the accident which happened at about 2pm on Monday.
They particularly want to speak to the driver of a light blue car, possibly a Nissan, who sounded his horn to warn Mr Heaton that a child was lying injured in the road.
