TONY Chew recovered his composure to win the six-mile Barley Fell race in 27.44 after a crashing fall on the descent of Pendle had wiped out his 200m lead.
Clayton team-mate Simon Thompson was a close second in 27.51. The next four were covered by seven seconds with Mark Brown just ahead of Anthony Waterworth, Gary Wilkinson and Andrew Hartley. Geoff Gough (eighth), Graham Cunliffe (11th) and Paul Brannon (16th) were the leading veterans with Barry Mitchell (17th) the top M50.
Clayton took all the top 20 positions in this the sixth round of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix, and also fielded the ladies winner Vanessa Peacock. Debbie Gowans of Accrington RR was second. Richard Packer of Red Rose was first over 65, his third class win in the series.
