ON the proposed amalgamation of Dame Evelyn Fox and Blackamoor special schools, we say - if it's not broken don't try to mend it.

As parents of one of those special children we agree that Blackamoor does cater for very different children than Dame Evelyn Fox.

What happened to free speech and freedom of choice?

Parents of other children have a choice of where to send their children. We also had a choice, but now Blackburn with Darwen Council is taking that away.

It says it is following government policy. But when Mr Blair was elected he said there would be better education for all our children and smaller classes.

Can anyone tell us how 130 children from Dame Evelyn Fox and 120 from Blackamoor are going to be in smaller classes?

Do the education officials realise how much stress and upset this is going to cause the children?

Let these children grow up happy and with a good education, which is what they are getting now at the two schools.

S STAFFORD (Mrs) Arran Avenue, Blackburn.
