TWO brothers have been disqualified from being company directors for three years after a court heard how their slipper firm failed.

The order was made by Salford County Court for their conduct as directors of Glentop Slippers Ltd.

Warren Vincent Weldon, of Brandwood Road and Dale Adam Weldon, of Rakehead Lane, both Stacksteads, were found to have caused Glentop Slippers Ltd to continue trading after December 1996 when they knew or ought to have known that the company was insolvent, and that their continued trading was to the detriment of creditors, in particular the Inland Revenue and DSS.

There was a deficiency of £82,042.

They were also found to have failed to submit VAT returns to HM Customs and Excise after the first quarter of trading.

The disqualification order prevents both brothers from being a director of a company or in any way, directly or indirectly, being concerned in or taking part in the promotion, formation or management of a company for three years.

Glentop Slippers Ltd traded as a manufacturer of slippers from Glentop Brewery, Newchurch Road, Stacksteads, from March 1996 to January 1998.

A winding-up order was made against the company on January 21, 1998, and the Official Receiver was appointed as liquidator.

The proceedings were brought by the Official Receiver on behalf of the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry.
