AFTER reading the article and letters regarding the opposing plans for a Pet World section at Focus DIY in last week's edition can I just ask has anyone who is protesting ever visited any of these stores in other towns?
I have been to several pet superstores ranging from Blackpool to Bolton and the animals are well looked after and the staff have a good knowledge of the animals to give advice and the conditions are better than some of the local pet shops I have seen, and for the record it is not just animals that they sell but a wider range of food, accessories and equipment than you can buy locally.
At home I have in seven animals and none have been bought on impulse from this stores, three are actually rescued animals.
What is the difference from people going into a pet shop and buying on impulse to going to this store?
I think part of this protest is just sour grapes on the pet shops side for fear of losing trade.
These people are not giving the IQ of the people living in Morecambe and the surrounding areas much credit if they think everyone is daft enough to buy a rabbit while shopping for a tin of paint.
As for the abandoned rabbits it just goes to show some people abandon animals without the excuse of a Pet World in the area, this is the story around the country with animals and some people when the novelty wears off, whether they maybe purchased, given or rescued, saying that there is alot of good people out there as well. A lot of people that can not have animals will gain pleasure just visiting and watching the animals without necessarily buying an animal.
I fully support the plan for a Pet World to this area and may I ask how many people will buy an animal while entering a pet shop to sign the petition?
Will they buy one on the spur of the moment too?
