FIREFIGHTERS are putting their best foot forward to scale the heights of Britain's three biggest peaks - in just 24 hours.
Intrepid teams of Fire and Safety Officers from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, based in Preston, are taking part in the 1999 Three Peaks Challenge.
A daring team of five climbers, plus a four-man strong support crew, trekked to the top of Ben Nevis in Scotland and Scarfell Pike in the Lakes, before making it to the summit of Snowdon in Wales.
The intrepid bunch managed to raise plenty of cash for the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund, which supports the families of firefighters killed in action.
