DANCERS will stepped out for a Titanic performance on Thursday.

Following a week of creative work in dance and composition, organised by Wigan Council's education department, 50 students from throughout the borough performed live at Bedford High School.

The pupils started work on Monday with the Stark Dance Company to create an original piece based on the sinking of the Titanic.

At the same time 20 students from the school composed music for the piece under the guidance of Wigan LEA music adviser, Harry McLoughlin.

Dance adviser, Lorna Pout, said: "Last year's school was a huge success and we are all excited about what came out of this year's theme.

"The young people really throw themselves into both the dance and composition elements and it is fascinating to see the final piece grow in front of your eyes as the ideas are brought forward and find their place in the performance."
