IT has become obvious to us at Bury Lions Hospital Radio that our existing record library has become sadly dated, and constant playing has resulted in wear and tear on our vinyl record stock. This has meant that we have been unable to play many of the tunes requested by patients.
In order to overcome this problem we have installed two CD players in the studio but, unfortunately, lack of funds means that we can only afford to buy a few CDs. We wrote to most of the record companies asking if they could help us with discounts or donations, but only one company replied - and that was to say no! We would be most grateful if readers could let us have any CDs that they no longer use. We need all types of music, old and new, classic and pop, jazz, English or Asian. If it's on a CD we can use it. Patients come in all age groups and have a wide range of tastes, and we are constantly surprised by the breadth of music covered in a programme.
We broadcast to Bury General and Fairfield hospitals, and I can assure readers that any donation would bring a lot of pleasure to many patients who, we hope, have their days brightened a little by our broadcasts.
If you can help, please ring the studio on 0161 705 3649 or drop a card to: Bury Lions Hospital Radio,
Fairfield General Hospital, Rochdale Old Road, Bury BL9 7TD. We would be only too happy to collect your donations.
JOHN F. CULLEN, broadcast chairman.
