A GENEROUS legacy from a former headmaster has allowed a Lytham school to renovate its outdoor pursuits centre in the Pennines.
David Heap, headmaster of King Edward VII School from 1982-1993, purchased the Stationmaster's House at Ribblehead in 1983 for use as an outdoor centre for the pupils.
Now, thanks to a generous donation left in Mr Heap's will, the school have been able to renovate the centre which needed a new roof, showers and a drying room.
Students and staff, including present headmaster Julian Wilde, attended a special ceremony to mark the re-opening involving the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and photograph of Mr Heap.
Geography teacher Steve Luck, warden of the Ribblehead centre, said the facilities for visitors has been significantly improved.
"The very generous legacy from Mr Heap has enabled us to provide some welcome additions including an extra bedroom.
"The centre is now well equipped to cater for the needs of mixed groups and can accommodate 30 people."
More than 200 pupils from King Edward's and Queen Mary's are expected to use the centre as a base for outdoor activities before the end of the summer term.
