BLACKPOOL has done its own version of the treble by scooping three North West Tourist Board awards.

Boosting its reputation as one of Europe's favourite attractions, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been voted the North West's favourite day out after investing over £2 million in new rides and attractions including The Globe, The Chinese Puzzle Maze and Pasaje Del Terror.

The Pleasure Beach, pitted against Granada Studios Tour, Mersey Ferries and Blue Planet at Ellesmere Port, won first prize after being voted for by schoolchildren across the North West.

And for the second year running Blackpool's Old Coach House has come out on top in the Bed & Breakfast of the Year category.

Judges were particularly impressed with the first class facilities at the Old Coach House, which dates back to 1851, and the commitment to customer care.

In addition the Tourist Information Centre of the Year award went to the Blackpool branch on Clifton Street.

Following a £40,000 investment plan, completed in 1998, the centre has been able to modernise the interior and improve disabled facilities.

North West Tourist Board chairman Anthony Goldstone said: "The North West has some of the best tourist facilities in the country and these awards recognise that.

"London has always been known as the centre of British tourism, but when it comes to customer care and value for money I believe tourism operators in the South should look to the North West."
