BOTH carriageways of the East Lancs Road were closed between Windle and Haresfinch on Friday, June 18, following a crash involving four cars and a chemical tanker.
The accident happened on the Manchester-bound carriageway near to the Windle Hall Bridge at about 5.40pm and a number of casualties were taken to Whiston Hospital for treatment. One of them, a 55-year-old passenger in one of the vehicles, was detained suffering from chest, rib and arm injuries.
Following the collision, the Manchester-bound carriage was closed for more than two hours, while the Liverpool bound carriageway was closed for about half-an-hour.
