A POPULAR bowling green in Bury has been hit in a new wave of vandalism.

Youngsters struck at one of the two greens at the Manchester Road Vets League club and dug three deep holes in the turf.

Now the men's section will be forced to use an alternative green until the damage is repaired.

Club captain Mr Douglas Hall said the vandalism apparently took place on Wednesday night.

"Apart from digging holes in the green, the vandals also removed hoarding from the sides and threw them on to the club roof.

There are 80 members of the men's section who play league and internal club matches each week.

"Our next league match is scheduled for Monday. If the damage isn't repaired, then we'll have to play on our opponent's green instead," added Mr Hall.

The club has been the target for vandals on a number of other occasions.
