A CARMEL College student has put his enterprising skills to good use, winning three top achievement awards in a national business competition.
Brian Unsworth (17) and other students have been taking part in the Young Enterprise Scheme and have formed a company called BETA which produces stationery and painted glass products which the students have been selling.
The group have now been judged on various local levels and Brian, BETA's managing director was awarded the St Helens Individual Achiever Award for his motivation and effort. The former Hurst School pupil then followed this up by taking the Merseyside Individual Achiever of the Year Award. And he completed his hat-trick by taking the award for North West Achiever of the Year at a ceremony in Preston.
Brian is currently studying for the Entry Level Vocational Skills Award and is hoping to stay on at Carmel next year to study a GNVQ Business course at Foundation level.
Frank Waring, one of his tutors, told the Star: "These awards are not always awarded to the best students but to the ones who are inspired to make the most of the Enterprise Scheme. Brian's motivational skills have really made a difference in encouraging the rest of the group. He is a very bright young man."
