THE RUBBISH, at the Good Night Club, Nelson

AFTER a week which saw Pendle-based group The Rubbish offered a publishing deal and getting their name mentioned on national radio, this gig looked like being very special.

After the publicity from Radio One's Chris Moyles it was packed venue that awaited the lads whose infectious catchy tunes continue to win new friends. The madcap antics of Barney Williams and co show no sign of ending and they casually sauntered on stage dressed as Mexican bandits, calling themselves El Combo. Putting to one side all thoughts of original material, they polished off a set of covers as tidy as any cabaret act.

From the moment the set was unleashed with the Beatles' Lady Madonna, smiles spread across the club.

As the midnight hour closed in, the lads reappeared to rattle though the contents of their Santana-influenced-debut album Crazy Farmers.

The show suggested it won't be long before their music gets the disc jockeys talking and not just their name.
