A 27-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital with serious burns after spilling burning fat over his legs which set his jeans on fire.
Damian William Stuttard was in the shower at his home in Springfield Road at 3pm yesterday and he had left a grill pan on in the kitchen.
It set on fire and when he tried to pull the grill pan out the fat spilled over his his legs setting fire to his jeans and burning his legs from his thighs to his feet.
Sub Officer John Davies, from Burnley fire station, said: "When we arrived we administered first aid and the paramedics took him to hospital.
"The fire had destroyed the grill pan and contents and there was moderate smoke damage to the kitchen. He would have been better closing the door, calling us out and getting out rather than trying to tackle the fire."
Mr Stuttard was taken to Burnley General Hospital, but later transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital where his condition today is described as "comfortable".
