A SHORT racing trip to the International Cycling Week in the Isle of Man was a big success for Salesbury veteran Dave Brown of the North Lancs Road Club who came back with two new records to his name.
In the Veterans 25-mile time trial on Tuesday, Dave was overall fastest finisher with a time of 59mins 27secs on the difficult course and was also best veteran on age standard with his age of 61 giving him a "plus" of one minute 44secs which was the best-ever "plus" achieved on the Isle of Man.
On Thursday, his 23mins 19secs in the 10-mile veterans event was again fastest on the day and best plus on standard with the four successes being the first occasion that this has been achieved in the long history of the cycling week on the island.
Two other members of the North Lancs Road Club were also in the prizes during the Cycling Week with Blackburn's Dave Hargreaves taking the award for fastest veteran in the mountain time trial over the famous TT course, and also fifth place in the Veterans Road Race over the same course on Friday. John Buxbaum of Clitheroe claimed second handicap award in the Veteran 25-mile time trial with an actual time of 1hr 4mins 29secs.
