FORMER Darwen Dasher Brian Cole won the annual race from St Joseph's Church in Darwen to the Jubilee Tower and back. Brian's time of 15.59 for the 2.25 miles was a new record, he won by 2mins 30secs and also won a bonus prize for being first to the top. Blackburn Harrier Tim Ryan in second was leading veteran. Another ex-Dasher Eric Collins was first M50 with Dave Wardle first M60. Leading lady was Bernadette Lobo (Blackburn Harriers) in 24.08 with veteran honours going to L60 Maureen Roberts (Darwen Dashers). Darwener Damien Rawcliffe was first U12 boy, Louise Taylor of Hyndburn first U12 girl and the organiser's daughter Carrie Hamilton was first U14.
Hyndburn's Neil Tattersall was second to Preston's Steve Smith in Tony Bolton's Baxenden 5K trail race. Phil Taylor of Rossendale was leading vet in third, with his team-mate Chris White ((fifth) first junior. Another Rossen- dale Harriers Christine Navan was top lady veteran. Deborah Murray (Accrington RR) was second lady in only her second race, with Darwen Dasher Jo Sirkett third vet in her first-ever event. The fun run winners were 13-year-olds Mark Bridge and Gemma Cormack, both from Hyndburn AC.
Eileen Peat (Blackburn RR) was first L50 in the Charles Saer 10K at Fleetwood. Graham Cunliffe of Clayton finished fourth, but was only third veteran in a race won by Wesham captain Alex Rowe. For Darwen Dashers M45 Roy Ashcroft logged 39.28.
