BLACKBURN'S Jon Purdy scored his best success to date on Sunday morning when he was a clear winner of the North Lancashire Time Trials Association 100-mile event on the Garstang-based course in wet but reasonably calm conditions.
Jon became one of only a handful of riders who have covered this demanding course in less than four hours when he finished in the outstanding time of 3hrs 56mins 42secs which was also a personal best time and also a new record for his Lancashire Road Club. The ride came only 12 days after claiming his own club's Bolton to Hawes and back record of 125 miles which obviously was ideal preparation for Sunday's performance. Jon's ride was over seven minutes faster than second placed Andy Barlow of Kendal and of the members of our local clubs Keith Turner of the North Lancs Road Club returned 4hrs 20mins 54secs, and Jon Leach of the Rossendale Road Club 4hrs 22mins 41secs.
