THE body of an elderly woman was pulled from a reservoir last night by joggers.
Paramedics tried to revive Kathleen Scott, 69, from Beech Avenue, Darwen, but she was dead by the time she arrived at Blackburn Royal Infirmary.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death at Entwistle Reservoir between Bolton and Blackburn but are not treating it as suspicious.
Mrs Scott, who was widowed last year, is believed to have been walking her dog at the popular beauty spot.
The tragedy happened shortly after 6pm and the dead woman's son identified the body late last night.
Minutes before her body was spotted in the water she had a short conversation with another woman and her daughter. Two joggers then noticed Mrs Scott's body floating in the reservoir close to the bank. The joggers managed to get the body out and raised the alarm.
Detective Inspector Tim Jacques said: "It appears that this lady was walking her dog and somehow fell into the reservoir.
"We are not treating the death as suspicious but we will be investigating all the circumstances."
Police and paramedics were called out to the remote reservoir along with the Bolton Mountain Rescue Team. Detectives have since spoken to all the witnesses.
A post mortem examination was to be carried out today and Blackburn's coroner Andre Rebello has also been informed.
