ON the television news there was an article on how a gentleman who lived on the outskirts of Heathrow managed to have Concorde quieten its engine noise when coming in to land. If that can't be achieved why can't the residents of Bare and Morecambe have the noise from old time railways 6am to 11.30pm which makes them have their windows shut during warm weather made the railways do the same? The railway's excuse is that they would require concrete sleepers to make railway lines with no gaps as fitting to express routes.
That is nonsense on a side line when opened is not much more than 35mph. The new Irish ferry from the shore is causing extra traffic.
We can keep the noise down with double glazing but we need to open our windows when we do get a bit of warm weather. The long train carriages are the quietest. The short trains used mostly at night are very noisy. I suppose they are old stock. We have a train on average every 20 minutes. Sometimes two trains come into Morecambe and one out.
