HIGH school pupils and staff were in mourning this week after the death of a senior teacher.
Tyldesley Fred Longworth head of humanities Mrs Linda Dunning lost a five year battle with cancer on Monday when she died in St Ann's Hospice.
Husband Mark, who also teaches at the school, and her father, were by her side.
Mrs Dunning had taught at Fred Longworth for 13 years but illness had prevented her from working since before Christmas.
Mr Dunning, a physics teacher at Freddies for 14 years, told The Journal how they met at work and married in 1989 at Leigh.
The couple from Fieldhead Avenue, Astley have a son, David, aged six.
Cllr Brian Wilson, chairman of governors at the Tyldesley school paid tribute to Linda's work: "My heart goes out to the family. It is a sad loss to the school when someone as energetic and enthusiatic is taken so young."
