WELL, I despair. What an uncaring duo we have in Mr Sumner of Platt Street and Cllr Bleakley.

As a do-gooder (the opposite of which is a 'do-badder), I ask if the chosen site aside the canal is the wrong place to house mentally handicapped people? Where then is the place in Leigh to site such an establishment? Please don't suggest Grasmere Street or Howe Bridge, the locals there have already rejected similar projects because of a prejudiced bias.

Mr Sumner went on to say because of its name, Market Street should house the 'market'. A profound statement, but it provokes humorous connotations. Knowing that my hair was once curly and has now waved goodbye, I had better not look for a house in Platt Street. Leigh Centurions should move to Rugby Road, and I reserve my comments on Slag Lane.

Cllr Bleakley, our local Liberal councillor, does his brain cell suffer from loneliness? If the answer is in the affirmative, then it may explain why he has little or no control over his oral orifice. Why does he object to anything and everything that happens or is happening in Tyldesley?

I find it utterly disgraceful that he can object to Tyldesley CP becoming a school for children with learning difficulties. Has he no compassion? Why is there an objection to a 10 foot security fence to keep these vulnerable children safe?

Has he and the local residents not noticed that across from the proposed fence there is an eight to nine foot solid wall, the top of which is in a state of disrepair. How long has this wall been there? Long before any of the residents can remember I guess. Originally was it built to keep the vicar in, or the parishioners out?

If Cllr Bleakley wishes to gain the confidence of the local populace, then I suggest he becomes more pragmatic. Now is the time for him to reflect and consider which is the right way forward, especially as Paddy has decided to put his Ashdown.
